What’s your Sammy’s story?

sammyslovers

Joe, Esko, MN

We started our own family tradition a few years ago by going to Sammy's in Cloquet after church every Sunday. Evan and the staff are always fun to visit with. Recently the waitress told us Evan had to run to the store before we got there to restock the post-meal sucker bin because our four young boys enjoy that part of the visit so much. When asked what they want to do when they grow up, be a "Sammy's worker" is on the top of the list!
The Crew is my favorite pizza so when we come in I like to say "how's the Sammy's Crew today?" A few minutes later there will be a Crew on the buffet.
"Cheesy", I know, but it works every time!

In Summer of 1998 I had just moved to Duluth and was looking for a job.

Little did I know that when I applied at Sammy's to be a waitress that not only would I get a job, but that I would meet my future husband!!! Jim and I got married in May of 2001! We held our grooms dinner at the Sammy's in Woodland, it was wonderful....half of the employees were in our wedding!! We now have a family of 4 little girls! On the birth of our 3rd daughter we decided to give her the middle name of Samantha!! That is our Sammy's story....I love it!!

When I first moved to Winona, MN, it was the first time I moved out on my own. I worked late nights at the local station, plugging in commercials for the Twins' games and doing the local weather reports. I wanted to try some local flavor, and my then-fiance/now-wife brought me a calzone from Sammy's.
I was hooked from first bite.

Two years later, married, we moved up to Coon Rapids/Blaine. I was thrilled to see a Sammy's up here, but saddened when I saw it did not carry the calzones I loved. Saddened until I tried the pizza. Again, hooked at first bite.

Now that we are parents, Sammy's is part of our one-Friday-a-month date: a movie at the Showplace, and pizza at Sammy's. Doesn't get much better than that!

The best memory of growing up was looking forward to Fri. night, because that was Sammy's pizza night. It all started when I was about 5 and my dad owned a business in Duluth and had to close shop late Fri. nights so he would call Lakeside Sammy's every Fri. and ordered a family size house special. This was such a routine thing that he would not even have to call he would just show up at 10:15 and they would say here is your pizza Jim Proudlock, if he was a minute late they would call him to make sure it was still fri. night family pizza night. It was such a treat because I got to stay up late and that was the only time I got to eat in my parents bed. Even when I got older, we still continued the tradition. I remember coming home from college and having my fri. night house Sammy's Pizza. Now I am married and live in Esko and my husband and I would like to continue the family tradition with our son. We hope that they will get to know our name and pizza order in Cloquet. That for the great pizza and a memory that will continue and last a life time.

I grew up on Sammy's pizza in the '60s - at the Lakeside and downtown Duluth locations. It defined pizza for me - It was so good - all you needed for great taste was crust, cheese, sauce, and those nice big sausage meatballs.
I've never had anything like it anywhere else. I've missed it terribly through the years, although I did get back to Duluth a few times and it was always just as good as I remembered. Sammy's and DeLorenzo's tomato pies in Trenton, NJ are easily the best pizzas I've ever had, including in NY and Italy. I'm glad to see you are expanding and keeping it in the family!

My husband and I started dating in 1971. Our first date was at Sammy's Pizza on 1st Street in Duluth. Believe me, through our courtship we ate dozens of Sammy's pizzas. After we got married in 1972, we vowed that we would go back to Sammy's for every anniversary. After over 35 years, there have been few anniversaries that we have missed having Sammy's for our celebration.

Every time we're in the area, the first place we go to eat is Sammy's.  The pizza is perfect every time.

Grew up enjoying Sammy's Pizza in Minot years ago. Don't get back often and miss the pizza. Any chance of Sammy's being sold online? You could package/can the ingredients and ship it to all of us that have moved away. It wouldn't be quite the same w/o the proper oven but hey, it'd at least be a Sammy's fix. Thanks!!!

When I lived in Minneapolis, MN dated a girl name Gina who’s dad owned Sammy’s in Minot, ND and other Sammy’s. She gave me a Sammy’s sweatshirt. We broke up and she took it away. I lived above Sammy’s in downtown Fargo, ND never had their pizza while I lived there. Moved out and finally had the pleasure of dining at Sammy’s. Wow!! Great pizza. Better than Duanes pizza of Fargo.

I was introduced to Sammy's by my Grandparents 37 years ago in the town of Wausau Wisconsin. This was a special treat ordering that delicious pizza and I can still remember my Grandfather collecting pizza coupons for a free large. My travels have taken me to many Sammy's, Green Bay, Eau Claire, Winona, Minot, Coon Rapids and now in my backyard of Brooklyn Park. I have introduced this pizza to many friends who have also become fans of this great pizza. The tradition, recipe and people make this the best pizza by a long shot. "Sammy’s Forever"
