Sammy’s Pizza has been an Eau Claire tradition since 1957 when Sam Perrellla, himself, opened a restaurant on Barstow Street. He ultimately sold the restaurant to the family of his best friend, Nick Jerulle – who was like family – in 1971. The Jerulle family has operated the restaurant ever since.
In 2004 they opened the London Road restaurant, spicing up their act with a larger menu and full-scale bar, plus live music on Friday nights during the summer.
The restaurant enjoys a devoted following from its customers. That loyalty was especially evident one stormy Saturday night when a power pole outside the building caught fire. Rather than leave, customers calmly paid their bills and continued eating. A short time later the fire knocked out power to much of the city. Firefighters determined that it would be safer for people to remain inside the restaurant and so, for nearly two hours, customers enjoyed the old fashioned ambiance of Sammy’s Pizza – dining by candles and flashlights.
