Sammy's Pizza in Hibbing opens Monday May 12
On Monday, May 12, Sammy's Pizza in Hibbing will re-open for business. They will have limited dining and buffet, but will have full takeout and delivery services. Rebuilding efforts will continue in the dining room that previously contained the buffet. They hope to re-open that section later this summer.

Benefit for managers at Sammy's Pizza Hibbing was a success.
On April 20, a benefit was held for Darrel Glines, the general manager at Sammy¹s Pizza Hibbing, and Ken Mattson, one of the others managers. Both of these managers lived above Sammy’s and lost everything in the fire. The event was a success due to the overwhelming show of community support. A heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who showed their support by either working or eating at the event!
The rebuilding process is proceeding smoothly. Bathrooms are going in fast and the sprinklers are almost done. The coolers and freezers should be up and running by this weekend. An official re-opening date has not been set at this time, so stay tuned.

Rebuilding efforts continue.
Sammy¹s Pizza in Hibbing expects to open in approximately three weeks. Clean up is almost complete. The new tiles and fixtures are on order and the refrigeration equipment is in place. The Chalupsky¹s are anxious to re-open the restaurant. Now they just need to decide what stereo and vacuum cleaner to purchase.
Clean up efforts revealed a little surprise. Ten one-pint bottles were found in the wall of one of the upstairs apartments, along with some newspapers dating back to the 1920s. The plan is to put these prohibition-era bottles on display.

Rebuilding at Sammy’s Pizza in Hibbing has begun.
Construction crews are on-site and have already completed the original dining room. They are now moving into the kitchen area to clean up the smoke damage. It has been determined that the fire originated in the garage behind the restaurant, but didn’t enter the kitchen or the dining room. Rich and staff at Sammy’s Pizza Hibbing are working hard and looking forward to getting the doors back open.

Family, Friends and Neighbors show support after fire at Sammy’s Pizza in Hibbing
On Thursday March 20, around 3:30 pm, a fire broke out at Sammy’s Pizza in Hibbing, MN. The Hibbing and Chisholm Fire Departments responded to the call and had the fire out by 6pm. The extent of the damage is unknown at this time. Preliminary estimates say the restaurant will be able to reopen in approximately six weeks.
The Hibbing restaurant was Sam Perrella’s original restaurant that opened in 1954. Since then, it has become a landmark in Hibbing and a place where traditions and fond memories are made as family, friends and neighbors come together.
The spirit of Sammy’s rings as true today as it did over 50 years ago. Family and friends are coming together to show their support for the Chalupsky family and the staff at Sammy’s Pizza Hibbing. Click for more information on the history of Sammy’s Pizza Hibbing.
